Located on the stunningly beautiful Msambweni Beach, Samawati House is an exclusive villa designed to give you the beach holiday of your dreams.

Samawati House is a four bedroom, Lamu style villa on Kenya’s south coast. With four friendly staff to look after your every need, this villa is all about chilling out by the pool, enjoying a game of table tennis, meeting the local fishermen on our quiet beach, and indulging in fresh seafood!

We built our Arabesque Lamu style villa in 1985 – a double storey, 4 bedroomed coastal home in which all bedrooms are upstairs facing the sea. The dawn colours are breathtaking. The house is surrounded by indigenous trees – a paradise for birds and our local troupe of cheeky sykes monkeys! We love Msambweni for its unspoilt beach, safe swimming, good snorkelling on the outer reefs, steady trade winds for kite and wind surfing.

For local supplies, we recommend and encourage supporting the local villagers, but there are some more specialist products you might like to bring from Nairobi, or for super convenience, order from our partner site www.greenspoon.co.ke, and have it delivered to the door! (This also works well if you run out of wine supplies etc! 😉)

Activities

Our Team

100% local, 100% coastal, 100% dedicated.

Juma is your point of contact for meals and planning. He is very enthusiastic to learn new dishes with some guidance. He can organise the local fishermen and fruit vendors to bring their wares to the house. You should contact him a few days before arrival to discuss menus. Please also ask Susan to send the suggested shopping list as an aide memoire.

Hamisi helps in the house with Juma. He is Juma’s assistant in the kitchen and dining room, room cleaner, laundry, amongst other duties. He is also in charge of the swimming pool and takes great pride in ensuring that it is clean and leaf-free as much as possible throughout the day. He reports for duty quite early in the morning to clean the pool before we surface… but will be around most of the day.

Iddi works to ensure the garden looks glorious but not a complete jungle. This means daily pruning of our beautiful tropical plants, as well as trees and borders. We find Iddi’s garden heavenly.

Every morning Iddi sweeps the beach path and cleans our beach area of debris.

Chigamba comes on duty around 6:30 pm, greets us, tidys up around the pool and outside. When we retire to bed, Chigamba helps lock the house up, and stays on duty until 6:30am.
